Location: Market Square-Scene 2

Here's another view of Market Square. It's such a great place to have a seat and relax.

I know that some people wouldn't think that sketching streets and garbage cans would make a pretty picture, but there was something an art instructor said that I still remember well. That when you create, it's sometimes good to have "a deliberate apprehension to beauty".

Suddenly, you've sketched a garbage can and the composition, or it's form, or shading brings a value to it that you can appreciate.

Market Square is a wonderful plaza to sit, grab some lunch, and enjoy the great variety of architecture all around.

I love drawing on this natural recycled paper. There are bits of pulp and chips that you can see in the drawing above.
Location: Citizens Bank - Market Square

This sketch is in Market Square looking towards the Citizens Bank Building. There's a lot of work being done downtown Pittsburgh and it appears that sometimes you need a heliocopter to carry in pieces for the job.
• Pittsburgh Sketch/Crawl
Organized by The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust Education Center
Location: Mellon Square

Though the fountains weren't turned on this day they still made wonderful images for sketching and some pretty big bird baths. Pittsburghers gather at Mellon Square to enjoy their lunches like the gentleman seated on the left and to listen to music.

Such wonderful architecture.

There are a lot of wonderful spots to rest, enjoy the day and sketch in downtown Pittsburgh. Yuns should try it sometime.
• Pittsburgh Sketch/Crawl
Organized by The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust Education Center
Location: Katz Plaza-Magnolia Tree Sculpture

Can you believe that the magnolia tree is a sculpture ? You have to go to Katz Plaza and see it for yourself.

The lighting by the sun was spectacular when we came to this site. I immediately tried to catch it. The buildings can overshadow you in the blink of an eye.

I enjoy working with tinted charcoal paper and using a few charcoal colors to capture scenes like this one. It looks 'Olde World'. The ivy on the walls and around the trees were wonderful.
