Lobster House<br /> <br /> While sailing on the Lewis R. French, a historic schooner out of Camden, Maine, we came upon this port. We anchored there for the night and awoke to fog that was just lightly drifting on top of the water.<br /> <br /> The lobsterman hadn't come yet to set his traps, so you can look at the floating structure and see the lobster traps still on deck and the round marker in the water. <br /> <br /> The ink study was done from a photograph taken in the early morning light.<br /> <br /> Medium: India Ink on Hot Press Watercolor Paper

Lobster House

While sailing on the Lewis R. French, a historic schooner out of Camden, Maine, we came upon this port. We anchored there for the night and awoke to fog that was just lightly drifting on top of the water.

The lobsterman hadn't come yet to set his traps, so you can look at the floating structure and see the lobster traps still on deck and the round marker in the water.

The ink study was done from a photograph taken in the early morning light.

  • Wolves and Fireflies<br /> After receiving sheets of barn roof slate from my Aunt in Zelienople, Pennsylvania, I painted the mother and baby wolves.<br /> The color of the slate made it wonderful to do a nighttime painting. I left a lot of the original color as is and pulled the fur and other images out of it. A clear acrylic gloss finished off the piece.   • Bob's Barn<br /> <br /> This barn and cornfield were commissioned by a client and dear friend who lives near Saltsburg, Pennsylvania. He and his wife live in an old farm house and enjoy having several horses to keep them busy. They ended up purchasing the barn in the background and wanted to commemorate the event with a painting.<br /> <br /> Medium: Acrylic on Canvas Board
  • High on High Island<br /> <br /> This watercolor painting was commissioned by Southern Living Magazine to accompany their article on the Texas 'High Island' Bird Sanctuary. Birds migrate through the area and in particular are the Indigo Buntings shown in the picture.<br /> <br /> Medium: Watercolor paint on hot press watercolor paper.
  • Lone Buffalo<br /> <br /> This impressionistic painting was inspired after visiting the Custer State Park in the Black Hills of South Dakota. You get the chance to enter the park and drive through herds of the beautiful, majestic creatures.<br /> <br /> Along the way, there was one lone buffalo that kept to itself on the other side of the terrain. It just made you stop and wonder why.<br /> The original sold at a gallery show.<br /> <br /> Medium: Ink on Hot Press Paper
  • Aboard the Lewis R. French<br /> <br /> This painting was born from a sailing excursion on an 1871 schooner near Camden, Maine. Setting sail on this historic tallship meant being part of the crew along with three dear friends and a handful of other brave souls. We raised the sails, brought up the anchor, peeled pounds and pounds of potatoes ! <br /> <br /> A kayak was brought along with us to Maine which we had the chance to launch from the ship. We paddled to shore to enjoy a lobster and corn beach party. <br /> <br /> The best part of the trip were the calm seas, wonderful peace and quiet and just sitting on deck imagining what it was like over a hundred years ago on this very boat.<br /> <br /> Medium: Ink on Hot Press Paper
  • Cactus Twins<br /> <br /> This painting was mainly done as an impressionistic study in ink. My niece had recently moved to Arizona, so I soon became interested in the local terrain. My artwork, as you will see, changes from the more loose studies to detailed pieces when necessary.<br /> <br /> Medium: Ink on Hot Press Paper
  • Beginning With Books Charitable Auction<br /> <br /> A local literacy organization was looking for local Pittsburgh artists to donate their time and paints to raise money for their group. Furniture pieces like adult and children's rockers, and a table and chairs needed illustrated for the ten year old reader. <br /> <br /> I chose the table and chairs and painted the 'Dog Theme' shown in the picture. The chairs each had a single dog curled up on the seat and all three pieces had the paw-hand print insignia wood burned into them.<br /> <br /> Medium: Acrylic on Wood
  • White Moon<br /> <br /> This painting was done in preparation for a children's story that will be submitted to a publisher. The story is written by a local artist and good friend with illustrations being done by myself. This is the last illustration for the book. <br /> <br /> A young Indian boy, whose name is White Moon (see him on the rock beneath and to the left of the moon), sits quietly above his tribe's encampment, staring up at the full moon, finally at peace with his place in his community and in the world.<br /> <br /> Medium: Watercolor on Hot Press Watercolor Paper
  • Peggy's Barn<br /> <br /> There's a barn in Murrysville, Pennsylvania that caught the eye of a friend of mine. There was something so beautiful and moving, especially when lit by the early morning sky, that she mentioned it to me. <br /> <br /> So, this painting was done for Peggy and her love of old barns.<br /> <br /> Medium: Acrylic on Canvas Board

  • Canadian Geese At Sunset<br /> <br /> This acrylic painting was done as a submission for the U.S. Duck Stamp competition. Though it wasn't selected that year I did enjoy painting the waterfowl. The painting was done from reference photos and I'm looking forward to continue submitting new work in the competition.<br /> <br /> Medium: Acrylic on Canvas Board
  • Ship and Bird at Shore<br /> <br /> This pen and ink study of the Maine coastline was done in the studio from reference photos after walking the Maine coastline. <br /> <br /> There is such quiet beauty there. It was amazing to see how little color there was that morning because of the surrounding fog that was just starting to lift.<br /> <br /> Black india ink was an easy choice for capturing the moment.<br /> <br /> Medium: Black India Ink on Hot Press Watercolor Paper edit
  • Jackson Hole Elk in Winter<br /> <br /> What an amazing sight. If you ever get the chance to visit Jackson Hole, Wyoming, do it. Herds of elk bed down right near the town.<br /> <br /> You can take a sleigh ride among them, stop, and just stare in wonder. They aren't bothered by the sleigh and horse as long as you stay inside the sleigh.<br /> <br /> The lack of much color in the landscape made choosing pen and ink washes the natural choice.<br /> <br /> Medium: Black India Ink on Hot Press Watercolor Paper
