  • Flying High on High Island<br /> <br /> This watercolor painting was commissioned by Southern Living Magazine to accompany their article on the Texas 'High Island' Bird Sanctuary. Birds migrate through the area and in particular are the Indigo Buntings shown in the picture.<br /> <br /> Pencil sketches were first sent to Southern Living for approval. After a change or two the full color art was created and mailed to 'Southern Living' for print production.<br /> <br /> Medium: Watercolor paint on hot press watercolor paper.
  • The Art of Game Design<br /> <br /> The five illustrations shown in the cards were commissioned for a game design company.<br /> The deck of cards were created to master the fundamentals of becoming a game designer. The Art of Game Design: A Book of Lenses illustrates that the same principles of psychology that are used for board games, athletic games and card games are also the keys to making excellent video games.<br /> <br /> Pencil sketches were emailed as the first proofs, changes done and the final color images also sent via email for print production.<br /> <br /> Medium: Watercolor on Hot Press Paper
  • Beginning With Books Charitable Auction - The Table<br /> <br /> This is the completed tabletop of the furniture set for the auction. The hardest thing for me to do was to choose the variety of dogs and then stop adding more of them as I continued. There are so many wonderful breeds. <br /> A local literacy organization was searching for local Pittsburgh artists to donate their time and paints to raise money for their group. Furniture pieces like adult and children's rockers, and a table and chairs needed illustrated for the ten year old reader. I chose the table and chairs and painted the 'Dog Theme' shown in the picture. The chairs each had a single dog curled up on the seat and all three pieces had the paw-hand print insignia wood burned into them.<br /> <br /> The raw furniture was stained with three coats of water based stain, illustrations done with acrylic paint and top coated with several layers of clear acrylic paint.<br /> <br /> <br /> Medium: Acrylic on Wood

Carefully placing the carnation and then his gun on a mound of snow near the gate, Bill used his gloved hands to dig a little, freeing a shovel concealed against the marble façade. With the shovel, he began to clear ice and the snow that had built up around the gate since his last visit. <br /> <br /> As the moment came closer, tears warmed Bill’s cheeks. More than anything else came the realization that today was their anniversary. He continued to work, and at last the gate inched wide and the path to the heavy door was cleared. Bill worked clumsily at the locks and opened them. He pulled, concentrating on what seemed the opening of an ancient vault.
