Plein Air

Plein Air (out in the open) paintings are created outdoors by Cheryl to capture a more raw, instantaneous ‘feel’ of her subject or to be used as reference for a more detailed painting done later in the studio. Depending on the circumstance, the paintings may be offered for sale, kept as study pieces or donated to a worthy cause.

Can you believe that the magnolia tree is a sculpture ? You have to go to Katz Plaza and see it for yourself.
The lighting by the sun was spectacular when we came to this site. I immediately tried to catch it. The buildings can overshadow you in the blink of an eye.
I enjoy working with tinted charcoal paper and using a few charcoal colors to capture scenes like this one. It looks 'Olde World'. The ivy on the walls and around the trees were wonderful.
